In today's modern age of pool building, 90% of tracking on under units is now installed on the bond beam below the coping instead of secured to the underside of the cantilevered coping. This eliminates service calls due to loose track and allows for many more coping variations. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
  • When securing track to the bottom of cantilevered coping there must be a min. of 2 1/2 inches of flat surface for the track to mount to. The end of the pool opposite the recessed housing must have a minimum of 2 inches of overhang to allow for the pulley end of the track. For this application, the coping must be a minimum of 2 inches thick and level and smooth as possible.
  • When securing track to the top of the bond beam the maximum amount of cantilevered coping is 2 inches. This application will add 1 inch to the finished elevation of the pool. The thickness of the coping is no longer a factor.
  • Track that has been installed prior to pool completion needs to be taped off to protect it from construct debris. Blue painters tape works the best. It should be applied the same day the decks, coping and/or plaster is being done and removed as soon as possible after completion.
  • There should never be more than 3 inches of cantilever. This can be a safety concern for swimmers.
  • Coping should be finished all the way to the front edge of the recessed housing for the cover.
  • The bottom of the coping must be a minimum of 1 inch above any lowered walls, fan or finger jets, autofill lines, or any other possible obstruction. This 1 inch applies to finished dimensions.
  • It is preferable that all walls inside of the pool above water line have bullnose edges and rounded corners. This eliminates any sharp corners the cover fabric pulls across as well as being safer for swimmers.
  • The front and back edge of the lowered bond beam at the mechanism end of the swimming pool should be free of sharp edges.
  • Two feet of #8 copper bond (ground) wire need to enter recess housing at both ends to allow for proper bonding of the drive mechanism.
  • Electric Systems Only All electrics coming into the recess housing need to placed at the end of the housing with a single junction box mounted no lower than 10" from the bottom and no higher than 3" from the top.
  • Hydraulic Systems Only All hose chases coming into the recessed housing should be 2" in diameter and enter at the end of the housing.
  • All recessed housings must have a means of removing standing water which enters the housing from rain, swimming or operation of the swimming pool cover.
  • There can be no radius corners above the water line.

  • If a hidden leading edge is the preferred application please contact us for further information.
